Hajj Muhammad Karim Khan Kermani (1225-1288 AH/ 1810-1871AM), the founder of the Shaykhiyya sect of Kerman, is best known for his numerous works and treatises on the subjects of wisdom, principles, Shaykhiyya beliefs, responses to Shaykhiyya opponents, and hadith and interpretation; however, it is interesting to note that he also left behind treatises on sciences such as medicine, astronomy, mathematics, and especially sound, light, and chemistry. Among them, the book "Ziya al-Basair fi 'Elm al-Maraya va al-Manazir" is written in an introduction, three articles (chapters), and a conclusion; it has been less studied and analyzed. Therefore, the present article aims to use the historical research method with an analytical approach, first introducing Hajj Mohammad Karim Khan Kermani and his works, and then answering the question: What approach did Hajj Mohammad Karim Khan take towards the topics of optics in her book "Ziya al-Basair fi 'Elm al-Maraya va al-Manazir" and what results did this approach produce? The findings of the research indicate that on the one hand, like some scholars in this field, Kermani believes in a kind of fatalism and the influence of God on the formation of light, but on the other hand, by conducting some experiments and drawing some geometric shapes regarding the quality of light perception and the reflection of images of objects, etc., he has tried to describe the different parts of the eye and expressed different opinions about how objects are seen in the eye. With the help of tools such as a camera and various mirrors and lenses, he has presented materials on the relationship between light and shadow, as well as how rainbows are created.
