Pilgrimage to the holy shrines (Atabat-e Aliyat) and the tombs of the infallible Imams (AS) has long been of great importance to Muslims worldwide, especially Shiites. Devotees of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS) have always, despite all hardships and difficulties, made their way to these luminous sanctuaries to express their reverence and devotion. In this regard, the role of scholars and Grand Maraja' Taqlid (sources of emulation) in promoting and expanding the culture of pilgrimage has always been significant and influential, with their sermons and statements providing enlightenment. Among these scholars, the role of Sheikh Morteza Ansari (1214–1281 AH), a prominent Shiite leader and the greatest Marja' Taqlid of his era, is unparalleled. By residing near the sacred shrine of Imam Ali (AS) and engaging in study, teaching, and later assuming general Shiite Marja'iyya, he benefited from the blessings and spiritual effusions of daily pilgrimage and spiritual connection. This research seeks to answer the question: What academic and practical steps did Sheikh Ansari, as a prominent scholar of his time, take to promote the culture of pilgrimage to the Atabat? The findings indicate that pilgrimage to the holy tomb of Imam Hussein (AS) held a special place in his life and conduct, and he repeatedly recommended it to his students and audience. During his leadership of the Shiite community, Sheikh Ansari was among those who revived the Arbaeen pilgrimage and undertook measures such as building caravanserais to facilitate this important endeavor. The present research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, relying on library resources, with the aim of examining the importance of elucidating ethical and mystical teachings from the perspective of Sheikh Morteza Ansari (RA) and his actions in promoting the culture of pilgrimage.
