his research examines the role of Shia "Ghaliyun" (extremists) in the formation of the Shia ethical writing tradition during the 2nd to 4th centuries AH. The central question is how a group of thinkers, accused of "ghuluw" (exaggeration) due to their specific theological inclinations, produced works that significantly influenced the intellectual heritage of the Imamiyyah. The study argues that despite theological accusations, the Ghaliyun were pioneers in composing treatises and books on ethics, introducing many topics and themes for the first time, which were later reflected in more prominent Shia works. The research method is descriptive-analytical, relying on early biographical (rijal) sources and catalogs to compile and analyze works attributed to the Ghaliyun. Findings indicate that the Shia ethical writing tradition not only has roots older than the medieval period but also benefited from the contributions of marginal figures. This conclusion, while offering a critical re-examination of rijal sources, aids in understanding the complexity of intellectual interactions within Shiaism and recognizing lesser-known ethical legacies. Thus, this study seeks to provide a clearer picture of ethical developments in early Islam by offering a fresh perspective on this intellectual movement and highlighting the importance of even peripheral actors in religious society.
