The economy of Mecca on the eve of the advent of Islam was mainly based on trade and commerce. This economic position was due, on the one hand, to the geographical location of Mecca and, on the other hand, to the presence of the Kaaba in this city. The Kaaba had been respected by various tribes and nations for centuries before the mission of the Prophet of Islam(PBUH)and was known as a safe sanctuary. This sanctity, as well as the pivotal role of Mecca in annual trade exchanges, provided the basis for extensive movement of people from different regions. One way to understand the economic components of Mecca on the eve of the advent of Islam is to examine the content of historical sources related to this city.Among these sources, the book Akhbar Makkah by Azraqi, as the oldest historical work about Mecca, is of particular importance and its study seems essential for researchers of the history of Mecca. The main issue of this research is to what extent Azraqi's book Akhbar Makkah paid attention to the economic components of the city of Mecca. The findings of the research, using the content analysis method, show that in this work, components such as the existence of the Kaaba and its economic consequences, including the creation of job opportunities, attracting pilgrims and Umrah performers, and the development of infrastructure, wells, and mountains, have received the most repetition and attention. In contrast, components such as financial resources and craftsmanship have received the least attention and repetition in this book.
